Music at Heart ACE Singing Across Languages – Multilingual Access to Early Years Music

2 minute welcome video

This short video shows a typical Music at Heart early years session in practice, demonstrating our Kodály-inspired approach and work with multilingual families. We work with around 85 families each week, with around 65% from multilingual households.

A few specific short videos relevant for our project

Tumbai‘, an old Israeli folk song, taught in our parent and baby Singing Circle. Movement to music is an ice breaker and natural way for children and their primary caregiver to bond. This song gets faster and faster over time so is really fun to encourage participation, for example in a Library setting this would work well!

Folk song from Ghana ‘ Senua de Dende‘, about a mother calling her child home to eat. This simple song works beautifully as a round. I add traditional drums, and families can play instruments from our natural percussion basket.

Australian contemporary folk song ‘Let if Free‘, chosen for its message of emotional release, powerful our many families struggling with mental health; I often add live harp accompaniment as this slow song benefits from arpeggiated chords and additional vocal harmonies.
